About the Event

The expansive lobby of the Jersey Shore Arts Center is currently home to a year-long retrospective of work by Monmouth University professor and visual artist Karen Bright.

This retrospective, highlighting 42 years of the artist’s work, will officially open on Friday, October 23rd and initially present Bright’s work on paper. In March of 2021, the exhibition will change over to Bright’s more recent work in painting and sculpture, on view through September 4th of 2021.

We are thrilled to have Karen Bright exhibit at the JSAC. Karen infuses the raw power of nature into her art, and the results are always surprising and spectacular.

—Nichole Nappi, Executive Director, Jersey Shore Arts Center

Also on display at this exhibit will be The Transformer and The Climate Shelter, two key components of Just Beachy/After Sandy, an installation on climate change that intertwines elements of found nature, geodesic design, and digital media which was introduced last fall as part of Bright’s Throughline exhibit at Monmouth University. A digital interpretation titled Hurricane by Monmouth University Assistant Professor, Amanda Stojanov will also been on view inside The Climate Shelter. The final design of the Climate Shelter was conceived by both Karen Bright and Amanda Stojanov.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, October 23rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a reservation only preview to be offered on Thursday, October 22nd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Jersey Shore Arts Center is located at 66 South Main Street (the old Neptune High School) in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. For additional information please contact Nichole Nappi, Executive Director, JSAC at 732-502-0050.
